Firefighter Eligibility

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Have a high school diploma or GED

  • Have a valid driver’s license and good driving record

  • Have no felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude

  • Meet the medical requirements set forth in OSHA 1910.156, 1910.134, and 1910.120

Hiring Process

  • Apply HERE! Applications are reviewed by the City of Goldsboro HR Department as well as the Goldsboro Fire Department’s Hiring Committee. 

  • Agility Testing: A series of events will be held to evaluate the physical abilities of qualified applicants to ensure they can perform essential job functions.

  • Interviews: Candidates who pass the agility test will be invited to participate in an interview process with the Hiring Committee.

  • Conditional Job Offers: Candidates chosen by the Hiring Committee will receive conditional offers of employment.

Firefighter Trainee Requirements

  • EMT certification is not required to be hired.

  • Firefighter certification is not required to be hired.
